Software Freedom Day 2007

Every year, on the third Saturday in September, geeks all around the world gather to celebrate Software Freedom Day. Sri Lanka is no exception, with lug.lk - the Lanka Linux User Group - having celebrated SFDay since its' inception in 2004. This year, lug.lk celebrated SFDay by holding Free Software promotion events in six locations covering four different parts of the country.

The Ruwanpura NCOE - the primary teacher training institute in the Ratnapura District, as well as the only IT teacher training institute in Sri Lanka - held a four-day Tech Expo for students and teachers in the Ratnapura district. The exhibition was very well attended with over 3,000 visitors over the course of the event.

lug.lk was represented there by many people who taught the visitors about Linux and free software, held seminars to the many people gathered, and generally educated the participants (visitors and other exhibitors alike) what Free as in Speech really means.
